Brandenburg Tour (licence required)

from/to Potsdam via Rathenow

Plan at least 7 nights.

Details of the route:

280 km, 10 locks, approx. 45 hours sailing time.

Your houseboat holiday begins and ends in Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg. Take time to visit and enjoy one of Germany's most beautiful cities before setting off on your houseboat tour. A charming cultural landscape with 12 castles and historic parks, including the crowd-pullers Sanssouci Palace - summer residence of Frederick II and Cecilienhof Palace, site of the Potsdam Conference, await you. On foot, by bus, by bike or from the water, Potsdam offers something for everyone, whether it's museums or shopping, historic quarters or the Babelsberg Film Park, be sure to plan enough time.

Brandenburg: "City in the river", two of the three historic city centres - Neustadt and Dominsel - are surrounded by arms of the river. The old town also lies on an arm of the Havel. Numerous boat moorings throughout the city centre. Restaurants, cafés, bistros invite you to relax after a tour of the city. Brandenburg is divided into six districts (including the three mentioned above), and there are also eight districts. One of the largest inland wetlands in Central Europe begins in Brandenburg an der Havel. Remains of the preserved city fortifications (14th - 15th centuries). St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral on the Cathedral Island.

Plaue (part of the city of Brandenburg): Plaue Castle with castle park and terraced meadow, listed "garden city", the "old lock".

Premnitz: small industrial town in the green heart of the western Havelland. Newly designed Havel riverbank promenade with the steamer landing stage. Premnitz Lake "natural bathing place" with circular walk. The lake was created in 1913 by a water inrush in a clay pit.

Rathenow - City of Optics: historic old town island, enclosed by four arms of the Havel. The optics park (Federal Garden Show site 2016) with brachymedial telescope and its other numerous highlights and events is well worth a visit! Optics Park and Weinberg with Bismarck Tower are connected by the 348 m long "Weinberg Bridge", which is well worth seeing. Optics Industry Museum.

Havelberg - island and cathedral city in the countryside: this is where the Havel flows into the Elbe. Richly decorated half-timbered houses in the old town centre are a reminder of the prosperity that prevailed in the Hanseatic town due to the salt and timber trade. The cathedral is also an attraction of this beautiful city.

Possible further activities:

- Hiking. Numerous marked hiking trails lead through the Westhavelland Nature Park.

- Water sports.

- Cycling. Day trips on the Havel cycle path, also circular routes, ideal for day trips.
