Maine-Anjou
The ideal region for leisure captains looking for remoteness and calm
The region Maine-Anjou is relatively unknown as a charter region. This really is a zone of rivers. The Sarthe and the Mayenne flow into each other at Angers. From Angers up to the point where the river flows into the Loire the river is called La Maine. This is an ideal area for skippers that are looking for peace and calmness. The western area of the Loire between Normandy and the valley of the Loire is being limited by Brittany to the west. This area is also often referred to as the Basin de la Maine. It is also called Anjou.
The basin of the Maine is the only district of rivers that is free of artificial canal constructions that can be navigated on by house boat. The landscape is made up of fresh meadows interrupted by woods and hedges with a natural flora and fauna. Water mills, small ponds, sleepy villages, and old towns with reasonably priced restaurants with a high quality are waiting for the water tourist.
The River Mayenne
The River Mayenne can be travelled on from Angers to Laval. The distance between the two places is 16 miles separated by 25 locks. At Grez-Neuville you will come to the mouth of the river Oudon that can be navigated on for about eleven miles up to the town of Segré.
The River Oudon
The river Oudon is a tributary to the Mayenne. It is canalized on the stretch of eleven miles between the mouth of the Mayenne and the small town of Segré. At the beginning of the waterway at Segré a sport boat base has been built.
The River Sarthe
The Sarthe can be navigated on between the towns of Le Mans with the famous castle called Barrage d'Enfer and the twon of Angers where the rivers leads into the Mayenne. The whole river covers a length of about 83 miles. In the dry months of the summer you have to be prepared for minimal water depths on the first 70 miles. The Sarthe, the Mayenne, and the Oudon make up the wonderful river region that is Anjou.
