The Caledonian Canal
Cruise through the many lakes of Scotland on the Caledonian Canal. Experience Loch Lochy, Loch Oich, or Loch Ness. The last one of these three is probably the most famous one due to the alleged occurrence of the monster that is said to have appeared there according to legend. The canal leads on a stretch of about 60 miles across the Highlands. It is protected as a world heritage and was inaugurated in 1822 as a connection between the North Sea and the Atlantic. Today houseboat travellers have the unique opportunity of profiting from this gorgeous canal. You can go fishing here, visit old castles, or rent mountain bikes. In order to go fishing you need a licence that can be had at your house boat base. The area is also attractive because it is generally possible to go on hiking trips here. The canal is mostly used by houseboats but you will also meet fishing boats and yachts on their way to the ocean.
