itineraries Neuruppin (Brandenburg)

The routes mentioned are only suggestions. You are of course welcome to put together a route according to your own ideas. The distances and travel times in the route recommendations are based on experience at average speeds of 6-8 km/h. The average time to pass a lock is 15-20 minutes (but depends on the season and traffic). Please also note the "lock opening times" of individual locks! These can vary from one sailing area to the next.

182 km, 10 locks, approx. 28 hours' journey.

The starting and ending point for your houseboat holiday is the Fontane town of Neuruppin. The birthplace of Theodor Fontane awaits you with a beautifully restored town centre and numerous shopping and nightlife opportunities. Follow in the footsteps of the city's two great sons and visit the Schinkel Monument (the most important architect of German classicism *1781) or the Fontane Monument (*1819). The poet Eva Strittmatter, Germany's most widely read poet and wife of the writer Erwin Strittmatter, was also born here.

Lindow: state-recognised health resort. Monastery ruins and park-like monastery grounds, around 200-year-old imperial oak on the market square in the middle of the town, small bird park, baroque town church with 36 m high steeple.

Wustrau-Altfriesack: Zietenschloss, bascule bridge.

Fehrbellin: every autumn tens of thousands of cranes and wild geese rest in the Linum pond area. Fehrbellin is also called the "Cradle of Prussia". In a legendary battle near Fehrbellin in 1675, the Swedes were driven out of the Mark Brandenburg.

Kremmen: historic barn district, Kremmener Damm - formerly the only way through the moor, strategically important trade route. Restored market square.

Oranienburg: Oranienburg Palace (oldest baroque palace in the Mark Brandenburg) with attractive palace park, Havel promenade and palace harbour newly opened in 2009 on the occasion of the State Garden Show, viewing platform of St. Nicolai Church, Lehnitzsee lake and lock. Germendorf leisure park, TURM-Erlebniscity with adventure pool, sauna area, wellness area, bowling alleys.

192 km, 10 locks, approx. 23 hours' journey.

Potsdam: Take time to visit and enjoy the capital of Brandenburg - one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. A charming cultural landscape with 12 palaces and historic parks, including the crowd-pullers Sanssouci Palace - summer residence of Frederick II and Cecilienhof Palace, site of the Potsdam Conference, await you. On foot, by bus, by bike or from the water, Potsdam offers something for everyone, whether museum or shopping, historic quarters or the Babelsberg film park, the possibilities are almost endless...

Werbellinsee: "It is a fairytale place where we sit, for we sit on the banks of the Werbellin" - Theodor Fontane. The Rinnsee from the last ice age is one of the most beautiful and largest bodies of water in the Schorfheide. Ideal for water sports and water lovers. "Kaiserbahnhof" - historical railway station. Nearby towns include: Joachimsthal, Altenhof and Eichhorst.
